Innovative solutions for future-oriented research projects

At Von Gahlen, we are dedicated to developing safe, innovative, and efficient solutions for our partners in nuclear medicine and radiopharmacy. One of our recent projects was the installation and commissioning of a hot cell suite for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University. These hot cells support FRIB’s research into exotic radioisotopes for applications ranging from nuclear astrophysics to nuclear medicine.

Compliant with safety and operational standards

The hot-cell suite consists of three 8-inch and three 3-inch lead-shielded compartments, interconnected by a conveyor system. It also includes non-corrosive internal hot-cell containments, a shielded airlock, shielded waste compartments, a target connection, and a container docking station for product dispensing. During the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), the teams from Von Gahlen and FRIB tested all functionalities to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

Success through collaboration

The collaborators between Von Gahlen and FRIB

Our collaboration with FRIB demonstrates how tailored solutions and teamwork lead to success. The final closeout review for the infrastructure efforts related to the hot cell installation for the Isotope Harvesting Project has been completed. FRIB was aided by the support and contributions from Von Gahlen to successfully complete the project. This achievement highlights the value of close collaboration and shared expertise in tackling complex challenges.
